01 — Housing

A safe home is where every other pillar becomes possible.

South Africa’s housing crisis runs deep. Our Housing Programme provides transitional shelter today, while building toward Wentzel Estates™ — a flagship development designed for the long term.

Why this programme exists

South Africa’s housing shortage, in numbers.

This isn’t a small gap. It’s one of the country’s most persistent development challenges — and it’s growing faster than the state can keep pace with. Below Sources: Statistics South Africa (Census 2022)

2.1–2.4Mhousing units make up South Africa’s national housing backlog, per current sector estimates
3.4M+households are registered on the National Housing Needs Register, awaiting assistance
4,000+informal settlements exist across the country, and the number keeps growing
~1 in 8South African households live in informal dwellings, according to the 2022 Census

What it is

Shelter today. A home for good, tomorrow.

Our Housing Programme provides safe shelter and transitional housing solutions for families facing homelessness — while building, in parallel, toward Wentzel Estates™, our flagship long-term housing development. It’s the largest of our four pillars because housing is where stability starts, and everything else — school attendance, steady meals, the confidence to start a small business — depends on it.

Provide immediate safety. Get families out of unsafe or informal shelter and into stable, transitional housing as quickly as possible.

Bridge the gap to permanence. Use transitional housing as a stepping stone, not an endpoint — with a clear pathway toward long-term stability.

Build Wentzel Estates™. Deliver a flagship housing development that integrates education, food security, and empowerment on-site.

Prove a replicable model. Design every build so it can be repeated in other communities and provinces, not just once.

Our approach

Two horizons, one continuous journey.

We’re not waiting for the flagship development to help families today — transitional housing and Wentzel Estates™ run on parallel, connected tracks.
