Answers, before you have to ask.
Everything donors, volunteers, partners, and families ask us most — about who we are, how we’re funded, and how you can get involved.
About the Foundation
6What is the Theoleen Brown Foundation?
The Theoleen Brown Foundation (TBF) is a community-driven, non-profit foundation working to restore dignity and hope for South African families through housing, education, food security, and empowerment support.
Who was Theoleen Anita Brown?
Theoleen Anita Brown (1973–2021) is the person the Foundation was established in memory of. Her compassion and resilience inspired the Foundation’s mission and continue to guide how it operates today.
Who founded TBF, and who leads it?
TBF is led by Founder & Executive Director, Mr Delroy Brown, who oversees operations, donor relations, and community projects, supported by dedicated pillar leads and a network of volunteers and community partners.
Where is TBF based, and where does it operate?
TBF is currently based and active in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Our roadmap is designed to grow into community housing hubs and programmes across South Africa.
Is TBF a registered non-profit organisation?
TBF operates as a community-driven non-profit foundation, with formal registration forming part of our current roadmap phase. For the latest confirmation of our registration status, please contact us directly.
What does TBF’s mission and vision focus on?
Our mission is to restore dignity and hope by addressing homelessness, poverty, and inequality through practical, community-driven solutions. Our vision is a South Africa where every family has access to safe housing, quality education, food security, and empowerment opportunities, regardless of where they start.
Our Programmes & Impact
7What are TBF’s four impact areas?
Housing, Education, Food Security, and Empowerment. Every gift is allocated strategically across all four — funded and delivered together, not as separate charities.
How is funding split between the four pillars?
Housing receives 40%, Education 25%, Food Security 20%, and Empowerment 15%. This allocation is reviewed and reported on with every financial cycle.
What is Wentzel Estates™?
Wentzel Estates™ is TBF’s flagship long-term housing development — the anchor of our Housing pillar. It’s planned as part of the “2032 & Beyond” phase of our roadmap, following earlier transitional housing pilots.
Who does TBF serve?
Families facing homelessness, children and youth needing educational support, households facing food insecurity, and adults seeking economic independence through skills training and micro-business support.
What is TBF’s approach to creating change?
We work through community-driven solutions, strategic partnerships, sustainable development, empowerment over dependency, evidence-based programmes, and transparency and accountability at every step.
What is TBF’s roadmap for the coming years?
2026–2027 covers formal registration, our first bursary cohort, and regular food drives. 2028–2029 brings our first transitional housing pilot and permanent community kitchens. 2030 and beyond includes groundbreaking on Wentzel Estates and new empowerment centres.
Will TBF expand beyond Gauteng?
Yes. While our work is currently rooted in Johannesburg, Gauteng, our roadmap is built to extend the same community-driven model into all nine provinces over time.
Donations & Funding
6How is TBF funded?
Through a mix of individual donations, grants from grant-making bodies, and corporate and CSI partnerships — no single source carries the whole mission.
Where does my donation go?
Every gift is allocated strategically across our four pillars — 40% Housing, 25% Education, 20% Food Security, 15% Empowerment — balancing immediate relief with long-term investment.
Can I donate toward a specific pillar or programme?
Yes. Donors and corporate partners can direct funding toward a specific pillar — for example, sponsoring a bursary cohort or contributing materials toward a community kitchen. Contact us to arrange this.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Tax-deductibility depends on TBF’s registration status at the time of your donation. Please contact us directly for the most current information before making a claim.
Can I get a report on how my donation was used?
Yes. Every donor and corporate partner is entitled to a breakdown of how their specific gift was allocated. Reach out through our Transparency & Accountability page to request a donor statement.
Where can I view TBF’s financial reports?
Our Transparency & Accountability page hosts annual reports, impact reports, and programme performance scorecards for each of the four pillars.
Getting Involved
6How can I volunteer with TBF?
Fill in the contact form on our Get Involved page and select “Volunteering.” Roles range from food drive support and tutoring to housing move-in assistance and workshop facilitation, on a flexible or ongoing basis.
What’s the difference between becoming a partner and a corporate partnership?
“Becoming a Partner” is for community organisations, NGOs, faith groups, and schools sharing local knowledge and reach. “Corporate Partnerships” are for businesses contributing funding, materials, or skills-based support, typically tied to CSI or ESG goals.
Does TBF offer skills-based volunteering for businesses?
Yes. Corporate partners can offer pro-bono skills in areas like finance, legal, marketing, and design, alongside or instead of financial contributions.
Can my organisation refer a family for support?
Yes. Community and organisational partners can refer families in need of housing or bursary support as part of a formal partnership with TBF.
How do I apply for support as a family or student?
Please reach out through our contact form with details of your circumstances. Our team will guide you through the relevant process for housing, bursary, food security, or empowerment support.
How do I get in touch with TBF?
