Who We Are

Not a once-off charity. A standing commitment.

The Theoleen Brown Foundation (TBF) is a community-driven, non-profit foundation established to restore dignity and hope by addressing homelessness, poverty, and inequality across South Africa. We exist because too many families are asked to survive once-off gestures instead of relying on practical, lasting support.

We serve families and individuals facing homelessness, food insecurity, and limited access to education or economic opportunity — starting with the communities of Gauteng – South Africa, and building deliberately toward a presence in every African country.

Our Story

From one woman’s compassion to a standing foundation.

The Theoleen Brown Foundation was established to honour the life and legacy of Theoleen Anita Brown (1973–2021), whose compassion and resilience continue to inspire everything we do. What began as a personal tribute has grown into a structured, multi-year plan to deliver housing, education, food security, and empowerment support to families who need it most — moving deliberately from first reach, to piloted programmes, to permanent community infrastructure.

Our Mission & Vision

What drives us, and where we’re headed.

Our Mission

To restore dignity and hope by addressing homelessness, poverty, and inequality through practical, community-driven solutions — delivered through housing, education, food security, and empowerment.

Our Vision

A South Africa where every family has access to safe housing, quality education, food security, and empowerment opportunities — regardless of where they start.

Our Values

The principles behind every decision.

Seven values guide how we choose projects, treat the families we serve, and report back to the people who support us.

01

Integrity

We do what we say we will do. Every commitment we make to a family, donor, or partner is one we intend to keep in full.

02

Dignity

Every intervention is designed to restore dignity, not just meet a need. We serve people, not statistics.

03

Compassion

Inspired by Theoleen Anita Brown’s compassion and resilience, turned into practical, hands-on help.

04

Equality

Access to safe housing, education, food, and opportunity shouldn’t depend on where a family starts out.

05

Accountability

Compassion paired with rigorous financial and programme accountability — every project transparent and measurable.

06

Empowerment

We build independence, not dependency — skills, tools, and opportunities that outlast our involvement.

07

Community

Practical solutions built with the communities we serve, not just for them — local trust is part of the outcome.

Our Approach

How we turn compassion into change.

Community-Driven Solutions

We work directly with the communities we serve to identify where the need is greatest, so support is shaped by the people living it — not designed at a distance.

Strategic Partnerships

Donors, grant-makers, corporate partners, and volunteers extend what we can deliver, and help verify that support reaches the families it’s meant for.

Sustainable Development

We balance immediate relief with long-term, standing infrastructure — from transitional shelter today to Wentzel Estates™ for tomorrow.

Empowerment Over Dependency

Skills training, mentorship, and micro-business support are designed to build lasting independence, not reliance on ongoing aid.

Evidence-Based Programmes

Every programme is tracked against clear goals, so decisions about where to expand are based on measured outcomes, not assumptions.

Transparency & Accountability

Every project we run — from a single food drive to Wentzel Estates™ — is transparent, measurable, and reported on openly.

Who We Serve

Families and individuals working against the odds.

Our programmes are built around the specific challenges South African families face — not a single group, but the overlapping needs of households under pressure.

Families Facing Homelessness

Households without safe, stable shelter, supported through transitional housing and our long-term development plans.

Children & Youth

Learners who need bursaries, mentorship, and school support to keep a postal code from limiting their future.

Food-Insecure Households

Families facing hunger, reached through emergency food drives and permanent community kitchens.

Adults Seeking Independence

Individuals ready for skills training and micro-business support that builds a lasting income.

Our Impact Areas

Four pillars. One coordinated strategy.

Every gift is allocated strategically across housing, education, food security, and empowerment. Explore each dedicated programme page for the full picture.
