02 — Education

A postal code should never decide a child’s future.

Our Education Programme funds bursaries, pairs every learner with a mentor, and stays involved long after the school fees are paid — because access to opportunity shouldn’t depend on where a family lives, or what they earn.

Why this programme exists

The gap between a pass rate and a real future.

South Africa’s headline matric results look better every year — but the numbers behind them tell a harder story about who actually gets to finish, and what happens next. Purpose

Opening doors that stay open.

Our Education Programme offers bursaries, mentorship, and school support to underprivileged youth — because poverty cycles break fastest at the classroom door. We don’t just fund a school fee; we stay involved for the years it takes to actually change a young person’s trajectory.

Our Mission

To remove the financial and structural barriers that keep capable learners from finishing school and reaching further education or employment.

Our Vision

A South Africa where a learner’s postal code, household income, or school’s resources never determine how far their potential can take them.

Bursaries

“A bursary should open a door, not just cover a fee.”
01 — In Depth

Funding that follows the learner, not just the term.

Our bursaries cover tuition, school fees, and essential learning materials for learners who show potential but lack the means to pursue it. We select recipients on need, not just merit — because talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. Every bursary is reviewed and renewed each year, so support continues through the learner’s full journey, not just a single lucky intake.

Needs-based selection. Bursaries go where they’ll change a trajectory — prioritising learners facing real financial barriers.

Full-cost coverage. Tuition, school fees, uniforms, and stationery — not just a partial contribution that still leaves a gap.

Multi-year commitment. Support renews annually so a bursary follows a learner through school, not just for one grade.

Growing every intake. Our goal is a bursary cohort that expands year on year, not a fixed, capped number of recipients.

Mentorship

“Consistency changes outcomes more than a cheque ever will.”
02 — In Depth

Someone in their corner, every single week.

Money alone doesn’t change a learner’s outcome — a consistent adult who shows up does. Every bursary recipient is paired with a volunteer mentor for academic support, exam preparation, and life-skills guidance. It’s the difference between funding an education and actually walking alongside one.

One-to-one matching. Every learner is paired with a dedicated mentor, not dropped into a generic group programme.

Academic + life skills. Homework help and exam prep, alongside guidance on decisions that go far beyond the classroom.

Regular, not occasional. Structured, ongoing check-ins — a relationship built over a school career, not a once-off session.

Volunteer-powered. Delivered by people from our own volunteer community — see how to become one on our Why Join Us page.

School Support

“The barriers to learning rarely show up on a report card.”
03 — In Depth

Everything that has to be in place before learning can happen.

A learner can’t focus on a lesson if they’re hungry, without stationery, or without a working relationship between home and school. Our school support work fills those gaps — the practical, unglamorous essentials that make consistent learning possible in the first place.

Uniforms & stationery. Removing the small, practical barriers that keep learners out of class or embarrassed to be in it.

Tutoring & homework help. Extra academic support for learners falling behind, before a small gap becomes a permanent one.

School partnerships. Direct relationships with the schools our learners attend, not a Foundation working at arm’s length.

Career & further-study guidance. Helping learners see and plan for what comes after matric, not just get there.

Our philosophy

Education is a relationship, not a transaction.

Here’s what shapes how we think about every learner we support.

01

Potential over pedigree

We fund learners based on need and promise, not the strength of the school they happen to attend.

02

Presence over payments

A cheque without a mentor rarely changes an outcome. We invest in people showing up, consistently.

03

Whole learner, not just a transcript

Academic support matters, but so does nutrition, home stability, and someone to talk to.

04

Years, not once-off gifts

We commit to a learner’s full journey, because real change rarely happens in a single term.

Help us fund the next cohort

A bursary changes one learner’s story. Your support makes it possible.

Whether you’d like to fund a bursary, become a mentor, or help a specific school directly, there’s a place for you in this programme.
